The New Guy's Perspective: The Countdown Begins!
Now that you're hopefully recovered from the turkey/stuffing/mashed potato/pumpkin pie-induced food coma you put yourself in this weekend, let's look forward shall we? Today is many things. In fact, today is chock full of all sorts of things that can lead to procrastination in the office; the first day back to work after a long holiday weekend (over/under on how many times you'll answer "how was your Thanksgiving?": 12.5. I'd take the over.), Cyber Monday, the last day of the regular season in many Fantasy Football leagues. Like I said, all kinds of stuff other than work to grab your attention today, which is why I'm strapping in, getting focused and knocking this out. Well, maybe after I check on my fantasy team. And snag a couple Christmas presents....
I jest. The point of this post isn't to discuss my proclivity toward procrastination, the point is that today is also the first working day of December, which means we're all systems go here at the resort getting ready for opening day on Saturday, December 14th. That's T-minus 13 days until the lifts start spinning for your skiing and riding pleasure. Having been a part of resorts here in the Northeast as well as out West, I can tell you that no matter what side of the Continental Divide you might be on, the run-up to Opening Day is always a little hectic. One on hand, plans are in place, people know what needs to be done and we're all amped beyond belief to get out on snow and start skiing and riding. But no matter how well you plan, or how antsy you are to get your skis or board on the snow, there's always a sense of "Are we ready for this?", combined with "Is Mother Nature going to give us a hand?" Setting aside Mother Nature, I can confidently say that we are ready to go here at Q Burke. The snow makers have been cranking full tilt at every possible opportunity. The resort staff has been working tirelessly getting this place set up. The F&B staff is getting the newly refreshed Tamarack up to speed. Steve and the park crew have been in the lab getting features ready. Speaking of which, if you're into the park scene here (or anywhere, really), throw the Shred Burke facebook page a look and give it a like. Great updates on all things park going on over there. But the bottom line is that as long as Mother Nature cooperates with us, we'll be skiing and riding on Saturday, December 14th. And that my friends, is a very good thing.
That'll wrap it for this week. Don't forget to check out the Tamarack Pub & Grill opening this Thursday, December 5th, and keep those snow dances going.
See ya on the hill,
